Kinja'd!!!

I added a second cage and bottle to the Salsa, which gives me enough water for the ~1.25-1.5 hour rides I’m doing right now without a Camelback. I really like not having it on my back. I’ve put about 70 miles on it five days of ownership and four days of riding, after taking a break and not riding at all yesterday. After two rides in both the morning and evening Saturday and Sunday, my ass and legs needed a break. They felt fantastic today, though.

After work I took a nice road ride out to Mesilla , checked out the ditch banks of Mesilla Park and then did a series of climbs and descents around my neighborhood on the way home. It felt like putting the bike to good use on both road and dirt on the same ride. It made for a fantastic evening.

Damn! You’re kicking serious ass here and making me feel wholly inadequate for only riding my actual bike twice a week and my stationary bike daily.

I think I found a new hobby.

I’d like to eventually get to where I can do like 20-30 mile road rides on a weekend morning, but I’m not there yet.

You’ll get there no worries. I started riding again just under a year ago and was surprised at how quickly I could ride (relatively) quite far.

Of course there are always machines that can ride 300 km in a day (never going to be there, don’t want to either) , but I was happy how quickly I got to a respectable distance without being a total mess the next day.

Nice! I vacillate between carrying a backpack for tools, first aid, spare parts, layers, and not wanting to have any bag at all. Sometimes I keep a small bag on the bike itself but most of them I’ve found to be awkward. Mind you, this is mountain biking. If I’m out for more than an hour in the summer I end up wanting more than one water bottle, too. But I’d so much rather NOT have something on my back. Sometimes I can’t avoid it.

Glad you’re getting out and enjoying the pedaling!

I've got a top tube bag coming for a place to stash a few things.

My heart bleeds... you traded in a unicorn for a bicycle

Kinja'd!!!

But I understand your reasoning...

Really, I traded the racecar for a Pajero in terms of my fun vehicle in the garage.

That’s been the best in-between I’ve found, but I don’t love having it there. I hit my knees on it from time to time and it’s rattle-tastic.

Same with the new hobby, I bought my bike a year ago and hadn’t ridden it much but with this year going to hell I’ve really started to enjoy it.

Mtb is a different equation.  Tools and a way to deal with flats other than calling uber are a requirement.  Stopping to fill a bottle is not usually possible either.

Don’t push on miles or anything really. Just try to keep it enjoyable.

I originally mounted the second cage up with standoffs to clear the FD, but I didn’t like the fit and clearance with the front bottle. I did some precision angle grinding on the aluminum cage to create a notch for the FD and like the fit a lot better.

Exactly... however, on the water thing - I have a LifeStraw bottle in the boat that we use if we forget to bring water to drink or if we run out. But I could carry that on the bike on longer rides. I just don’t get out for longer rides very much. The other day I almost filled my water bottle in a mountain stream, it was way away from anything and probably quite clean. Still, not worth the risk.
